Integration of KM Components into National IT Strategies
Simply put, an organization is what it knows.
Government entities are no exception. That being true, this knowledge has to
be at the core of any attempt to improve the organization's performance.
Managing that knowledge is its quintessential function. Hence, it is very
important for knowledge management as a discipline to be interwoven into
the IT strategies of the public sector.
In effect, knowledge management has been sweeping through the corridors
of enterprises over the last few years, including government. It is part of a
trend that shows little sign of abatement, since it is central to move any
organization to a stronger competitive stance.
It rides the disciplines of the moment - electronic commerce, data
warehousing and mining, document management, enterprise information
portals (EIP), the Internet, collaborative technologies, customer relationship
management, supply chain management - and is tightly coupled with them in
order to facilitate their exploitation by the organization.
IDF-BI can assist governments in planning, designing and implementing
knowledge management initiatives and, at the same time, integrating them
into national IT strategies.
We carry this out through the careful review of existing priorities, assessment
of organizational skills, analysis of requirements, and evaluation of the IT
strategy to determine how best to bring knowledge management to bear in
this context.
We make sure that we work closely with the government CIO's to ensure
seamless transition from phase to phase of the project.
